Responsible Land Use

Working with Audubon Rockies, Chickadee Pine Designs designed pollinator habitat strips to encircle a new solar farm in Johnstown, Colorado.

A former farmer didn’t want to sell their land to developers and has preferred to lease land to a solar farm initiative and create habitat for birds and pollinators. This project is also one of the first projects to incorporate grazing sheep beneath the solar arrays.

Chickadee Pine Designs in collaboration with Audubon Rockies, designed, and helped coordinate volunteers to install it. Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado stepped in to help with volunteer sign-up, tool logistics, and day of sign ins.
